Moon Magick Grimoire
Waxing Crescent
Inspiration, growth, and taking action.Meaning
The Waxing Crescent appears after the New Moon and before the First Quarter, when the visible crescent is increasing, or waxing. In common modern lunar-magick practice, this early growth phase symbolizes building momentum, tending an intention, beginning to act, learning, planning, and nurturing what was initiated around the New Moon. Where New Moon practice often centers possibility and intention, Waxing Crescent practice emphasizes taking the first supportive steps. It is gentler and more developmental than the First Quarter, which more strongly emphasizes decisions, decisive action, and working through resistance or challenges. These are modern spiritual interpretations, not scientific claims that the Moon determines personal outcomes.
