Incense Burner
Containing the heat and residue produced by appropriate incense-burning methodsOVERVIEW
An incense burner creates a designated physical place for incense practice.
For charcoal incense, the most important feature is not decoration or symbolism.
It is safe heat management.
IN THIS BOX
The incense burner is included so the Peaceful Home Loose Incense Blend and charcoal disk can be used together with an appropriate vessel.
BASIC CHARCOAL SETUP
Place the burner on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
If appropriate for the burner design, a bed of sand may help distribute heat and support the charcoal.
Ignite the charcoal according to its directions.
Allow it to heat.
Add small amounts of incense.
Do not overload the charcoal with botanicals or resin.
RITUAL SYMBOLISM
The burner may also be understood as the place where physical plant material becomes scent and smoke.
That transformation can serve as a useful ritual metaphor:
release
change
transition
prayer or intention carried into the atmosphere
This symbolism is optional.
The burner remains first and foremost a practical heat-containing tool.
SAFETY
Use only a vessel suitable for the type of incense being burned.
Charcoal produces intense heat.
Never assume a decorative dish is charcoal-safe.
Keep the burner on a noncombustible, heat-resistant surface.
Keep away from children, pets, fabric, dried plants, paper, and other combustible materials.
Use appropriate ventilation.
Never leave burning incense or charcoal unattended.
Allow all components to cool completely before touching or disposal.
