Comparison

Exploring the Stories, Insecurities, and Unmet Needs That Surface When We Compare Ourselves to Others

Comparison is a normal way people make sense of themselves in relation to others. We compare progress, relationships, appearance, money, creativity, success, confidence, spirituality, and countless other parts of life. Sometimes comparison can provide useful information or inspiration. At other times it can leave us feeling behind, inadequate, resentful, envious, or disconnected from what actually matters to us.

The next time comparison appears, pause before deciding that the feeling means something is wrong with you.

My journey is my own, and there is enough space in this world for all of our light.
  1. 1

When do I notice comparison showing up most in my life?

  2. 2

What emotions arise for me when I compare myself to someone else?

  3. 3

What do I think I’m missing when I feel “less than”?

  4. 4

How might comparison be distracting me from something meaningful in my own life?

  5. 5

If I could speak to the part of me that compares, what would I say to.

Comparison often points to a desire we haven’t fully acknowledged. Today, get curious about what it might be revealing to you rather than judging yourself for feeling it.
