Emotional Comparison

Daily Journal Prompts

Emotional comparison happens when we rank our feelings against someone else’s and decide ours are not serious, valid, or deserving of attention. It can sound like “others have it worse,” even when something genuinely hurts or a need is going unmet. This worksheet helps you notice where comparison turns into self-silencing and make room for your own experience without denying anyone else’s.

Set an intention for your practice today. What do you want to understand or release?

My feelings are valid, even when they look different from someone else’s. I honor my own experience.
  1. 1

What emotions do I tend to downplay because I believe someone else has it ‘worse’?

  2. 2

When did I learn that some of my feelings were too much, too sensitive, or not.

  3. 3

Who do I compare my emotional experiences with, and how does that comparison affect the way.

  4. 4

How might minimizing my feelings prevent me from expressing a need or asking for support?

  5. 5

What would change if I allowed my emotions to exist without comparing, ranking, or apologizing for.

What emotion did I compare or minimize today, and what might it have been asking me to acknowledge?
