Shadow Work Grimoire

Entitlement

A Daily Journal Practice for Self-Awareness, Growth, and Lasting Change

Overview

Entitlement can appear when an expectation becomes an unquestioned belief that another person, opportunity, or outcome is owed to us. It may coexist with hurt, insecurity, unmet needs, or a legitimate desire for fairness, so the goal is not automatic self-condemnation. This worksheet helps separate a reasonable need or boundary from assumptions about special treatment, recognition, or control over others.

Intention

I release the belief that I deserve special treatment. I choose gratitude, humility, and respect in how I show up.

Daily Affirmation

I release the belief that I deserve special treatment. I choose gratitude, humility, and respect in how I show up.

Guided Journal Prompts

  1. Where do I expect more from others than I am willing to give myself?
  2. When do I assume I deserve special treatment, recognition, or priority?
  3. How might entitlement be masking insecurity, hurt, or unmet needs?
  4. What expectations do I carry that create resentment when they aren’t met?
  5. How can I practice appreciation, patience, and humility more fully in my daily life?

Reflection of the Day

What moment today invited me to choose gratitude over entitlement?

Practical Integration

Choose one expectation that created resentment and ask whether it was communicated, mutually agreed, and within the other person’s control. Decide whether the useful next step is a clear request, a revised expectation, appreciation, or accepting an answer you cannot control.

Gentle Caution

Self-awareness does not require shaming yourself or dismissing genuine unfairness. If strong anger surfaces, pause before acting and return when you can examine both your needs and the other person’s autonomy.
