Social Masks
Exploring the Personas You Wear to BelongOverview
Social masks are the versions of ourselves we present to meet expectations, avoid rejection, protect privacy, or feel that we belong. Adapting across situations is normal; the concern is whether the performance leaves you disconnected from your needs, values, or relationships. This worksheet helps you notice where a mask is protective, where it is exhausting, and where a little more authenticity might feel safe.
Intention
I release the need to pretend. I am safe to be seen, known, and loved as I truly am.
Daily Affirmation
I release the need to pretend. I am safe to be seen, known, and loved as I truly am.
Guided Journal Prompts
- What masks or personas do I wear in different situations or around certain people?
- What do I believe might happen if I stopped wearing these masks?
- What parts of myself do I hide because I fear they won’t be accepted or understood?
- When do I feel most pressure to perform, people-please, or act “put together”?
- What would it feel like to show up more authentically, even in small ways?
Reflection of the Day
What moment today revealed where I was wearing a mask, and what was it protecting me from?
Practical Integration
Choose one low-risk setting and identify one small way to be more honest without sharing more than you want to. That may mean expressing a real preference, declining a role you usually perform, or letting a trusted person see that you do not have everything together.
Gentle Caution
Masking can be a practical safety strategy, especially in environments where authenticity carries real social or physical risk. Do not pressure yourself to disclose or unmask where it is not safe.
