Codependency
Exploring Where I Lose Myself Trying to Keep Others OkayOverview
Codependency is used here as a reflective description of patterns such as over-responsibility for another person, difficulty identifying your own needs, or tying worth to being needed. A worksheet cannot diagnose a person or a relationship, and caring deeply for others is not automatically unhealthy. This page helps you notice where support becomes self-abandonment and where a clearer limit or choice may be useful.
Intention
I can care about others without abandoning myself. My needs are important too.
Daily Affirmation
I can care about others without abandoning myself. My needs are important too.
Guided Journal Prompts
- Where in my life do I feel responsible for other people’s happiness or problems?
- What do I believe will happen if I stop putting others’ needs before my own?
- When did I learn that my worth comes from being needed, helpful, or self-sacrificing?
- How do I ignore, minimize, or abandon my own needs to keep the peace?
- What would it feel like to choose myself without guilt, apology, or explanation?
Reflection of the Day
What moment today showed me where I gave too much and forgot myself?
Practical Integration
Choose one situation where you routinely take responsibility for another person’s feelings or tasks. Write what belongs to you, what belongs to them, and one boundary or pause that would let you offer care without taking over.
Gentle Caution
Do not use this reflection to label yourself or someone else. In coercive, abusive, or unsafe relationships, prioritize safety and appropriate support rather than direct confrontation.
Keep This Reflection
