Control Issues

A Journey Inward

Overview

The need for control often grows stronger when uncertainty feels threatening or when a person believes they must manage every outcome, emotion, or response to stay secure. It can show up as over-planning, difficulty delegating, repeated checking, or frustration when others choose differently. This worksheet helps distinguish what you can influence from what belongs to someone else or cannot be guaranteed.

Intention

I release the need to control and trust myself, others, and life to unfold.

Daily Affirmation

I release the need to control and trust myself, others, and life to unfold.

Guided Journal Prompts

  1. What situations or relationships trigger my strongest need to control?
  2. What am I afraid might happen if I let go of control?
  3. Where did I learn that control equals safety, love, or worth?
  4. How does my need for control affect my peace, connections, and self-trust?
  5. What would it feel like to practice trust instead of control in one area of my life?

Reflection of the Day

What moment today showed me where I’m holding on too tightly?

Practical Integration

Divide one stressful situation into three columns: what you control, what you can influence, and what is outside your control. Choose one useful action from the first column and one expectation you are willing to loosen from the last.

Gentle Caution

Letting go of control should not mean ignoring genuine risk or surrendering necessary boundaries. If uncertainty feels overwhelming, pause and return after grounding or with support.
