Shadow Work Grimoire
Emotional Numbing
Daily Affirmation & Journal PromptsOverview
Emotional numbing can look like feeling disconnected, staying constantly busy, scrolling, withdrawing, overworking, or reaching automatically for distraction when feelings begin to surface. Creating distance can be protective in the short term, especially when an experience feels too intense. This worksheet is not about forcing emotion; it helps you notice when numbing appears and what care, pacing, boundary, or support may be needed.
Intention
I allow myself to feel all that I feel. My emotions are valid, and I give myself permission to experience them fully.
Daily Affirmation
I allow myself to feel all that I feel. My emotions are valid, and I give myself permission to experience them fully.
Guided Journal Prompts
- When do I notice myself shutting down emotionally, and what usually triggers it?
- What messages did I receive about emotions when I was growing up?
- How has numbing my feelings protected me in the past?
- What emotions feel the most uncomfortable or unsafe for me to feel—and why?
- What would it look like to create a safe space for myself to feel, without judgment?
Reflection of the Day
What emotion did I try to avoid today? What did I need in that moment? How can I offer that care to myself in the future?
Practical Integration
Choose a manageable moment and name only what is present now: one feeling, one body sensation, and one immediate need. Give yourself a brief amount of time, then ground through movement, water, familiar surroundings, or another steadying activity.
Gentle Caution
Do not push yourself into intense feelings or memories to complete a worksheet. If you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsafe, stop, ground yourself, and seek appropriate support.
