Perfectionism

When “Good Enough” Feels Unsafe

Overview

Perfectionism can turn high standards into rules that make mistakes, rest, learning, or being seen while unfinished feel unsafe. It may lead to overworking, repeated checking, delay, avoidance, or abandoning something that cannot be done flawlessly. This worksheet helps you notice the standard, the feared consequence, and where “good enough” could support your values more than endless correction.

Intention

I release impossible standards and allow myself to be human. My worth is not measured by perfection.

Daily Affirmation

I release impossible standards and allow myself to be human. My worth is not measured by perfection.

Guided Journal Prompts

  1. Where in my life do I hold myself to standards I wouldn’t expect from others?
  2. What do I believe would happen if I made a mistake or something wasn’t perfect?
  3. When did I first learn that perfection was the key to love, safety, or approval?
  4. How does perfectionism affect my mental, emotional, and physical well-being?
  5. What would it look like to choose progress over perfection in one area of my life today?

Reflection of the Day

What part of me is afraid that good enough will never be enough?

Practical Integration

Choose one task and define what complete and useful would look like before you begin. Set a reasonable stopping point, allow one imperfect draft or attempt, and observe what actually happens when you finish without polishing forever.

Gentle Caution

Wanting to do something well is not a disorder or a flaw. If impossible standards cause significant distress or interfere with daily life, pause the exercise and consider appropriate support.
